Enhance your Logic Pro X workflow
Lens is the perfect companion app for Logic Pro X and GarageBand. It allows you to quickly scan and sort your Logic projects, revealing information like tempo, key, time signature, and more. You can sort on any of these fields, or filter by partial project name, BPM, key, number of tracks, and more. Lens is the best tool for finding what to work on next.
Key Features
- Sort and filter by BPM, Key, Time Signature, and more!
- Filter by partial project name
- Flatten your project folder structure for easy browsing
- Completely offline, no network connection needed
Using Lens
After installing the app, simply select a directory with Logic Pro X projects in it. Lens will scan the directory, including subdirectories, and display the projects in a flat list.
You can then sort the projects by various attributes, such as tempo, key, time signature, and more. You can rearrange columns by dragging the column headers, and you can resize columns by dragging the column dividers. You can also hide and show columns by control-clicking on the column headers.
Filtering
You can also filter the list by a partial project name, or filter your projects by a specific attribute using a special syntax. For example, to filter by projects in the key of C, you would typekey:C
and then space. Several such filters are available:
bpm:<number>
, e.g.bpm:120
tracks:<number>
, e.g.tracks:10
key:<key>
, e.g.key:Bb
sig:<time signature>
, e.g.sig:4/4
bpm
andtracks
can also be a condition, e.g.bpm<150
ortracks>20
. These conditions add up– in other words, if you add multiple filters, all conditions must be true. This allows you to do ranges by adding two filters, e.g.bpm>100 bpm<150
.
Context Menu
You can select a project andcontrol+click
to show the context menu. Currently, the only command is to reveal the selected project in Finder.
FAQs
How does Lens know about my projects?
Lens reads the metadata of your project files to determine things like the tempo, key, time signature, and number of tracks. It does not read any audio or MIDI data, and it does not send any information to the internet.
Does Lens modify my Logic Pro X projects?
No. Lens reads information about your project, but does not write to or modify your projects in any way. It is completely read-only, and we only require the bare minimum of permissions to read your project files.
Does it work with a zillion files?
No, probably not. At least not yet. Lens is tested against several hundred projects, but it may not work well with thousands of projects within a single directory. Point it at a directory with fewer projects and it should work well.
